Formula SAE

The Formula SAE competition is held by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The scenario behind the contest is that a fictional company has contracted a student  design team to develop a small formula-style race car, which will be mass produced and sold to recreational autocross drivers. Vehicles are rigorously evaluated on their design, cost, manufacturing, performance, and reliability. College teams across the world are required to design, fabricate and race their Formula 1 styled race cars.

The vehicles are designed in accordance with strict regulations to provide a safe, competitive environment and to challenge students imagination. While the physical sizes of the vehicles are smaller than an actual Formula 1 car, the technology behind these machines is heavily influenced by current racing technology. It is very common to see aerospace derived technology on some FSAE team cars.

The annual Formula SAE East competition takes place in the Ford Michigan Proving Grounds in Romeo, Michigan and the West competition takes place in the California Speedway in Fontana, California with over 210 entries from colleges around the world. GSU Eagle Motorsports will be competing in FSAE East as a first priority. For FSAE West and other FSAE competitions outside the United States, GSU Eagle Motorsports will compete if there is enough funding.
