We are the Georgia Southern University Formula SAE team. As an extracurricular club on campus we put to use the skills we have learned in our classes to design, fabricate and race a formula style racecar in ten months. We compete every May in Detroit Michigan against 120 other engineering schools from all over the world. Last year we competed with the cheapest car at the competition and came in only three seconds after the team the won first place. We have the skill and passion to excel further in the competition and the desire to expand the club within the university however our funds do not allow it. Last year’s vehicle was paid for out of pocket by members of the team. With all the members remaining for this year’s competition as well as new ones coming in we feel that with the right amount of funding we can outperform the cars that are worth ten times ours. Where we lack money, we make up for in skill and determination. As well as performing well at the competition we feel that we can prove to other little schools that anyone can be competitive. The competition has been known to scare away other schools simply because of the amount of money involved. It is intimidating to try to compete against cars worth one million dollars when all you have is a few thousand. We have proved that it can be done. We are on a mission to show that not only can you go and compete, but you can win. We are not intimidated by the big name, big money schools. We can beat them. Our problem this year is that we are starting with no money. Actually we are starting $3000 in the hole. Registration for the competition has increased to $2000 and we are still outstanding to some supporting faculty from last year. Every year we do fund raisers and car shows, but they only put a small dent in the total amount of funds needed to compete. Some teams have large corporate sponsors in excess of 300,000. Actually one of the cars had over 1 Million dollars invested in it. We are not trying to be that team, actually we are trying to be everything they aren’t. We are a small group with big dreams, and a passion for power sports. Without hands on education and experience, we as a civilization are sitting still. So we are asking you to help support us in our quest. All monetary donations can be tax deductable and parts donations are greatly appreciated. If you think you can help please contact us immediately. You donations will not go unnoticed; we have ample advertising space on the car and shirts. |
